The Experiences and Perceptions of Omani Adults with Heart Failure: A Classic Grounded Theory Study

Al Saadi, Fatema.

Heart failure (HF) is a global health problem affecting approximately 26 million people worldwide and imposing a heavy financial burden on healthcare systems and societies (Savarese and Lund, 2017). In Gulf countries and Oman in particular, HF was recorded as causing the highest rate of deaths (about 25%) (Ministry of Health (MOH), 2016). Although advancements in medical technologies in Oman have improved the treatment of heart failure, the prevalence of patients' re-admission and poor health prognosis continues to rise (MOH, 2016). Oman also has its own culture, beliefs and context, which might affect how patients experience HF and consequently, their health status and prognosis (Al Zadjali, 2014). A semi-structured interview will be performed to get an in-depth understanding of the survey results, and to enable the researcher to look into the reasons behind participants adopting a certain viewpoint, i.e. to develop an in-depth understanding of student motivation factors. However, to date, there has been no study conducted in Oman to explore individuals' experiences and perceptions of living with heart failure. Therefore, it is imperative to explore the experiences and perceptions of people who have been diagnosed with HF to access their views about how to live with HF and, more importantly, how Omani social context and culture have shaped this experience and perception. Accordingly, classic grounded theory methodology (CGT) will be used that will involve interviewing Omani adults with heart failure to develop an understanding of their experiences and perceptions. Consequently, this study findings will help in improving the health services provided to heart failure patients in Oman. These insights are key to understanding the factors affecting student motivation. For example, if a student responded that he is motivated to attend the university based on AMS, but he Learning Analytics interpretations.
