This paper aims to conduct an evaluation of a published qualitative study that used the interview as the main method of enquiry. The evaluation of the study by Moloney and Xu (2015) starts with a discussion of the major approaches to educational research, followed by a classification of the study based on the understanding of the philosophical assumptions that underpin this research. Next, this paper outlines, discusses and uses the criteria for evaluation as a framework for critiquing the chosen study. The review concludes with a reflection on how this task has further supported the understanding of educational research.
