This study aims to investigate modernisation agenda in sport policy in Oman since 1970. It is carried out through a qualitative approach. It implements a biographical perspective and narrative approach in particular. Four case studies were selected which represented elite sports and community sports. The sample consisted of 22 people from the four case studies who are senior managers, presidents of sport associations, journalists, athletes and coaches. The results show that sport in Oman existed before 1970s; however, it is only the 1990s that witnessed clearer organisational structure. The establishment of the Ministry of Sport Affairs in 2004 strengthened the structure of sport in Oman. The state’s intervention is devoted (for the time being at least) toward promoting Oman’s maritime history and heritage.
