The African Vision and Eye Health (AVEH) journal publishes original peer-reviewed papers of scientific and clinical research in optometry, ophthalmology, vision science and other related fields. Literature Reviews, Technological, Research or Short Notes and Case Reports (of interesting or unusual vision and ocular problems) are also included. Book Reviews, Matters Arising and Letters to the Editor are welcomed. Regular columns by invited authorities in specific fields are sometimes offered. The African Vision Research Institute (AVRI) is proud to announce the launch of the African Vision and Eye Health (AVEH) journal formerly The South African Optometrist. This is a joint venture of the African Vision Research Institute, South African Optometric Association and the African Council of Ophthalmology. It will be the only Journal of its kind that is accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training of South Africa as a peer-reviewed subsidy-accredited Journal. The new name of the Journal more accurately reflects the nature of the published research and acknowledgement must go to the South African Optometric Association (SAOA) and the African Ophthalmology Council (AOC) for their cooperation in the rebranding process. The administration of the Journal has been streamlined to ensure the very latest in publishing and peer-review systems and technology through the appointment of AOSIS publishers. AOSIS has an established record in health care academic publications whose mission is the dissemination of knowledge on the African continent and beyond. This makes them the publisher of choice for AVEH journal. Through their online platform, peer-review systems managed by the Chief Editors and reviewed through a select panel of international experts, in their respective fields, will ensure scholarly publications of the highest level of academic excellence.
