Coagulation is an important chemical process and a traditional and use of coagulation as a method considered cheap, it is often used for remove contaminants from water and wastewater treatment plant. The coagulation efficiency has been investigated in the removal of organic matter from Water River. River water samples were collected from "Sorkheh Hesar Canal" east Tehran/ Iran and subjected to aeration process, then to coagulation and flocculation. The coagulants used are lime, aluminum sulfate and ferric chloride with a variety of different doses. the standard jar test has been used in the laboratory experience. quick mixing procedures included, followed by slow mixing and precipitation. The supernatant has been taken to determine of chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon tests. The experimental result shows that coagulation with aluminum sulfate, ferric chloride, lime can remove up to 83.1, 76.3 % and ferric chloride 72.4, 57 % and lime 81.9, 74 % and aluminum sulfate with lime 77.3, 60.6 % and ferric chloride with lime 70.9, 50.9 % respectively. The optimum doses for the study this coagulation were aluminum sulfate, ferric chloride and lime, aluminum sulfate with lime, ferric chloride with lime as coagulation doses of 60, 40, 6, 15, 20 mg/L respectively.
