FACTORS AFFECTING PERFORMANCE OF GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES IN OMAN

Saadouli, Nasreddine.

Employee performance has always been paramount to an organization’s success in today’s business environment. Research has shown that several contextual and behavioural factors within an organization have significant impact on employee performance. It is particularly important to understand which factors are relevant for government employees where key decisions may have political rather than objective criteria. In this study, three factors of change in government offices in the Sultanate of Oman are considered: technological, leadership and organizational structure changes. The key finding is that in this government employment context, the technology factor has a more significant impact on employee performance than the other two. This is in striking contrast to most reported evidence in the field. The results are discussed and the limitations of the research and future research venues are presented.
