This paper summarizes the key points of a study for a Master’s degree submitted to the University of Birmingham in 2012. Its purpose is to examine teachers' and students' perceptions towards Learner Autonomy (LA) in one of the colleges of Technology in Oman. Investigating such perceptions and beliefs is crucial as autonomous learning is a relatively new process in Oman. In order to learn these perceptions and discover what skills students have which can be used to learn independently, qualitative and quantitative research methods were applied through using questionnaires, face-to-face interviews, and a focus group interview. It was found that there are differences in teachers' and students' perceptions towards certain aspects related to LA. Furthermore, students are likely to be autonomous in some aspects while they depend on the teacher in other aspects of learning.
