The study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a training program in raising the awareness of a sample of teachers of social studies and science in Oman about education for sustainable development. To achieve the study aims, a training program was designed in education for sustainable development. In addition two research instruments were implemented: the first was the measure the dimensions of education for sustainable development consisted of 37 items in its final draft. The second one was an interview involving 10 questions applied to two focused groups of teachers. The study sample consisted of (22) teachers of social studies and science who completed training program at the Specialized Centre for Professional Training of Teachers. The results of the study indicated that the level of teacher awareness of issues of education for sustainable development increased after the implementation of the training program. In addition, the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the average responses of teachers of social studies and science due to specialization variable. The focus group's responses in the interview were supported the results of the questionnaire. In light of the results, the study recommended developing a practical and comprehensive plan by the Omani Ministry of Education to raise up teachers' awareness of Education for Sustainable Development. In addition, it recommends developing social studies and science curricula to provide sustainable development topics in a complementary way at all levels.
