The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of the scaffolding instructions in development of problem solving skills of the 9th grade female students in science. The study used semi-experimental approach. It consisted of 66 female students of 9th grade in Muscat Governorate/ Sultanate of Oman. The sample of the study was divided into two groups experimental group (n = 33 students) taught the electrical concepts by using scaffolding instructions and a control group (n =33 students) which was taught by conventional method. To achieve the study aim, the researchers designed teaching manual in how to use scaffolding instruction to teach the experimental group. In addition, a student manual and electronic profile containing PowerPoint presentations, videos and flash clips were also prepared. The validity of teaching manual was checked by competence specialists. An problem solving skills test was designed which aims to test the problem solving skills. Both the validity and reliability (0.80) of the test were checked. The findings of the study revealed that there were significant difference at the value of (α=0.05) in the problem solving skills between experimental group and the control group in favor of the experimental group. The study recommended to contact the workshops to introduce Scaffolding and principle to the teacher of science, and train them in how to creativity solve problems. The study also recommended future similar research to apply Scaffolding on other grades and other variable.
