A textual analysis, using a key regional practitioner journal (the Oman Economic Review) is undertaken to explore the discussion of the ongoing development of Oman. Based upon a framework adapted from Dodd (2002) and Pownall & Lawson (2005), this paper identifies the shifting profile of Oman when compared with the Porter competitive stage descriptors, through the searching of key phrases and textual constructions associated with industrial and sociological development. The overview identifies a fit between the reported business activity in Oman in 2007 and Porter's second stage of investment growth in a developing economy.
