This study is focused on the usage of mobile phones while driving among the young Omani drivers in Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman. The objectives of the study is to identify the frequency of using mobile calls and texting, behavior of the young drivers when they receive calls and messages and to analyse the impact of phone calls and texting on driving. A sample of 341 young drivers aged between 18-24 years from three departments of Nizwa College of Technology are taken for this study. The results of the study showed that 21% of respondents always use mobile calls and 27% of the youth always text messages during driving. 36% of the respondents keep answering the call while driving. 23% of the males and 18% of the females always use mobile calls while driving. 28% of the males and 25% of the females always text messages while driving. It is found that 49% of the males and 23% of females keep answering while driving. The study proved that mobile usage while driving is more among the males than females. The researchers have proposed suitable suggestions to reduce the usage of mobile phone while driving and thereby minimizing the crashes or accidents.
