On the slopes of the embankment of the Al-Khodgroundwater recharge-flood protection dam (Oman), a band of scrubvegetation community emerged after torrential rains and temporary filling of the dam reservoir. Hydroecologically, vegetation isinterpreted as a footprint of a temporary storage of water, whichis a small-size groundwater mound within a permeable shoulder ofthe levee. In order to describethe dynamics of the saturated zone inside the embankment we use the Lembke method of successive variations of steadystates.In the early-stage of the mound decay, an outflow through aseepage face of the shoulder is modeled by the Barenblatt slumping parabola of a phreatic-zone part of the flow domain, which isperfectly matched with the Youngs exact solution for purelyhorizontal flow through a porous wedge. At the stitchingcross-section, the flow rates and saturated depths in the twozones coincide. An ordinary differential equations for the sliding or descendinglocus of the intersection of the parabola and the trianglehypotenuse are integrated in a closed form or by the Runge-Kuttamethod. The dwindling saturated volume and the rate of drainageare obtained. The biological sustainability of slope-rooted shrubs(vegetation survival between rare rainfall episodes in Oman) and implications for storing and utilizingrainfall/flood water in erected harvesting units are discussed.
