Precipitation climatology over the Middle East region is studied using daily precipitable water, GPI precipitation, wind, humidity, etc. An attempt is made for better understanding of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall and mechanisms responsible for the variability. Daily rainfall analysis indicates that northern region gets rainfall mainly during winter whereas southern region gets during June to November. The passage of the low pressure systems formed over the Mediterranean is mainly responsible for the rainfall over the northern region. The remnants of monsoon surges/low pressure systems and strong moisture pumping from the Arabian Sea are responsible for rainfall over the southern region. The climatic fluctuation associated with a low pressure system, ’Gonu’ is also studied employing the meteosat cloud imageries, TRMM rain rate, moisture budget, etc. Moisture budget and rainfall values became exorbitantly high during the landfall of ‘Gonu’ in the Oman coast. Key Words : Precipitation climatology, wind, moisture
